In a shocking, yet comical turn of events yesterday, the courtroom became the unlikeliest venue for a sleeping competition, with legal practitioners exhibiting their unparalleled talent for snoozing through proceedings.

Social media users quickly started reacting to trending video photos and video clips of some prominent Nigerians and lawyers who were captured on TV sleeping during the proceedings of the presidential election petitions tribunal yesterday.
The judgment was on three cases challenging the outcome of the February 25 presidential election that produced Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner.
Those seen dozing off some hours into the court session include the former Kano governor and national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo; Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, lawyers and some journalists.
The proceedings in question were supposed to be a serious and solemn affair, with the fate of individuals hanging in the balance. However, it seems that the legal luminaries have found a way to turn even the most high-stakes trials into an opportunity for some much-needed slumber.
